Building Expansion Project
Project Overview:
The goal of this project is to build a one-story addition to be attached to the west end of the existing Broad Street Building Blocks Preschool facility. The building addition will include an integrated preschool classroom and additional treatment space for Physical and/or Occupational Therapy. The addition will also allow for the entryway to be relocated and allow for accessibility of the playground, classrooms, and treatment spaces. Moving the classroom to the addition will allow an existing classroom that is an interior space with no windows, to be repurposed into a gross motor space that can be utilized when the weather does not permit outdoor gross motor time. The building addition will be fully accessible to meet ADA requirements.
The location of the proposed building is in the iDistrict of Johnson City, and includes Broad and Arch Streets. The building will be directly located near existing academic and healthcare anchor institutes, healthcare-related businesses, cultural amenities, and residents. The addition of this building will be an added enhancement of an area of Johnson City that is currently making great strides towards revitalization and re-development.
Current Building Repair, Renovation & Revitalization
Project Overview:
HCA’s 10,000 square foot building located at 18 Broad Street Johnson City was converted to a preschool in 1976 and was formerly a supermarket. In 1987, an additional parcel was purchased and used for parking and in 2011 a parcel was purchased adjacent to the building. The parcel purchased in 2011 is currently used for green space but has been the site for our proposed expansion project. The building is in need of major repairs to maintain its integrity and remain a viable facility for preschool services and therapy service for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD).
The building needs major repairs including a new roof (leaking), new playground surface, new parking surface, major plumbing reconstruction, correction of drainage issues causing water damage, as well as repairs and improvements to the facade of the building.
How to Support the Project
Make A Gift
We recognize that this expansion project does not come cheap, but we believe it is essential to better serve children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community.
