ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT

The central component of HCA’s mission is to celebrate, empower and amplify the voices and needs of people with developmental disabilities and those who are entrusted with their care. Our work in the field of advocacy emphasizes the need for increased funding, greater access to services and a deeper public understanding and awareness. HCA has fought for the civil rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1947. The resource below will help you understand today’s policy initiatives at the local, state and federal levels and will allow you to help make a better world for people with disabilities and their families.

SELF-ADVOCACY

Self-Advocacy is based on the belief that all people have the right to make choices for themselves and responsibly live their lives in the way they choose. HCA recognizes that individuals may not know where to turn to get direction and guidance. That is why we place great importance on information sharing and networking, with the goal of providing a supportive environment where individuals can develop confidence and independence. Please use the resources below for more information about self-advocacy.
